Cucumber variety Cellar has a lot of positive characteristics and is unpretentious in care.
Characteristics of Pogrebok cucumbers
The fruits are versatile, which makes it possible to grow a multipurpose crop even in the smallest area. Thanks to these characteristics, the variety is in demand among gardeners.
Characteristics of the variety
According to the description, the Pogrebok cucumber belongs to the ultra-early varieties. From the moment of emergence of seedlings to the collection of the first harvest of zelents, about 45-49 days pass. The plant is pollinated by bees, therefore it is suitable for growing outdoors.
Variety Pogrebok is a hybrid of the first generation, as evidenced by the F1 mark on the seed packs. This means that the seeds do not retain the varietal characteristics of the parent plant, and planting material will have to be purchased annually.
Description of the bush
The plant is indeterminate - its lashes are limited in growth and reach a length of 60-70 cm. Bushes need support. It can be a trellis or a mesh stretched over the supports.
Leaves are wide, densely pubescent. Lateral shoots grow well enough.
Description of the fruit
The attractiveness of the Pogrebok F1 variety lies in its abundant fruiting.
During the season, up to 17 kg of green leaves at the stage of technical maturity are collected from one bush. The ovary is formed in bunches, so more than 10 fruits ripen on one lash at the same time.
Cucumbers are versatile. Ways to use them:
- salting;
- fermentation;
- pickling;
- salads and snacks.
The skin of the fruit is firm but not hard. They have a beautiful dark green color. On the surface, small black tubercles are visible - thorns. The fruits are crispy, not bitter. With poor watering, empty chambers are formed in them. Such fruits are not suitable for canning.
Care
Seeds are planted in the ground in mid to late May.
By this time, the threat of return frosts has disappeared, and the night temperature does not drop too low. Pre-planting material is soaked in a weak solution of potassium permanganate.
Cucumbers are planted at a distance of 40-50 cm from each other: this promotes natural ventilation of the shoots and does not interfere with the flow of sunlight. With thickened plantings, plants are more likely to get sick and give meager yields.
Fertilizer
Top dressing plays an important role in growing the Pogrebok F1 variety. It is necessary to apply organic and mineral fertilizers to the soil at various stages of the growing season.
Rotted manure is introduced into the ground before planting. It is strictly forbidden to use fresh: it destroys plants. After the first shoots appear, the cucumbers are fed with saltpeter: this accelerates the growth of young plants.
The plant needs to be fertilized periodically
In the process of flowering and ripening of fruits, the bushes are fed with ash. For this purpose, it is diluted in water or sprinkled under the roots before watering.
Fertilization of plants with infusion of weeds is also effective. 2 weeks before feeding, the ground part of the weeds is soaked in water and the container is left in the sun. Plants that have flowered or have formed seeds cannot be used.
Watering
In order not to cause the development of diseases, watering cucumbers should not be done with cold water. The liquid must be warmed up in the sun.
It is undesirable to water the plants at noon, as the steam that rises when water evaporates from the surface of the earth will burn the leaves. Cucumbers are watered abundantly, but rarely. Lack of moisture, even for a short time, provokes a decrease in yield and even the death of lashes.
Pests and diseases
Pests
Slugs
The main enemy of the harvest of greens is slugs. To combat them, the beds around the perimeter are sprinkled with wood ash, the leaves are also powdered. This measure also saves from aphids.
Mite
Sometimes the plant infects a spider mite. You can find it by the thin cobwebs that envelop the bush. To combat the pest, plants are sprayed with special chemicals:
- chopsticks "Plant-Pin" (they are inserted under the bush at the root before watering);
- Etisso (inserted under the bush before watering);
- Aktara (dissolved in water, after which the bush is sprayed).
Diseases
The crop also suffers from disease. They occur with improper care or insufficient feeding:
- Powdery mildew - small white spots on leaves, stems and fruits. The causes of the disease are temperature drops and excessive soil moisture. The affected plants are removed from the garden and burned, and the rest is treated with sulfur powder or sprayed with mullein infusion: 200 g of mullein per 10 liters of warm water.
- White rot - gray spots covered with mucus. It attacks plants in thickened plantings due to insufficient ventilation. As a means of control, the beds are thinned out.
- Root rot - rotting of the part of the stem where it comes into contact with the ground. The reasons lie in watering with cold water or a strong drop in temperature at night during a cold summer. The water is heated before watering, the beds are mulched.
If you follow the rules of care, you can save the crop from pests and diseases.
Conclusion
Growing cucumbers of the Pogrebok F1 variety guarantees a high-quality harvest. Among other things, the fruits have an excellent presentation and are well tolerated for transportation due to their thick skin.

First try in an autoclave Conservator (Home Cellar) 2 in 1
Autoclave "Home Provision" (improved "Home Cellar". My opinion.
Choosing a household autoclave
Unlike other cucumbers, the Cellar is resistant to drought and many diseases. It is suitable for growing even for beginners.
